Full Release: The Mom’s Choice Awards® has named Raman and Sunny: Middle School Blues as among the best in family-friendly media, products and services. The MCA evaluation process uses a propriety methodology in which entries are scored on a number of elements including production quality, design, educational value, entertainment value, originality, appeal, and cost.

“We are thrilled to earn the Mom’s Choice Awards Honouring Excellence Seal of Approval,” says Fiza Pathan (Author/Publisher). “We know all the great things the MCA does to connect consumers, educators, and caregivers with the best products and services available for families.

To be considered for an award, each entrant submits five (5) identical samples for testing. Entries are matched to evaluators in the MCA database. Evaluators are bound by a strict code of ethics not only to ensure objectivity, but also to ensure that the evaluation is free from manufacturer influence. The five evaluations are submitted to the MCA Executive Committee for final review and approval.

“Our aim to introduce families and educators to best-in-class products and services,” explains Dawn Matheson, Executive Director of the Mom’s Choice Awards. “We have a passion to help families grow emotionally, physically and spiritually. Parents and educators know that products and services bearing our seal of approval are high-quality and also a great value. The MCA evaluation program is designed to incorporate the expertise of scientists, physicians and other specialists; but we also engage parents, children, educators, and caregivers because they are experts in knowing what is best for their families.”

With the evaluation now complete, the testing samples of Raman and Sunny: Middle School Blues will be donated to schools, libraries, hospitals and non-profit organizations.

Synopsis:

Middle School is the worst period in a child’s life. He or she has to undergo bullying, and a transition from boyhood to young adult. It is also a period most neglected at home and in school, as the child grows rebellious as he feels he is misunderstood and unjustly dealt with. Parents feel helpless to interfere. Imagine then what then can be the plight of twins?

The story is about Raman and Sunny who are twins. Their childhood period was full of companionship and love and healthy competition. Then arrived their graduation to middle school and with it began their travails. Raman and Sunny felt suffocated on being compared with each other. Each wanted to choose his path, be it academics or sports. They drifted apart and the bullying began. Where before their togetherness was their strength, their separation resulted in their being isolated and bullied, especially the mild Raman. Resentment creeps in and the crevice in their relationship widens. The mild Raman allows resentment to feed him and he becomes irritable and destructive. This leads to him being produced before the school counsellor, Mrs. Bulwa, who decides that the best way to deal with waywardness in children, is to deprive them of their comfort zone.

Raman’s only solace is his friend Imran. Imran is the son of a Doctor. He is weak in studies but has a literary bent of mind. He shares his passion with Raman. But as things turn out, even here Raman misreads the situation and resorts to a deed which lowers him in the estimation of his father.

Enter Sunil Sir. He is a reformer who firmly believes that children should be encouraged to explore the different subjects taught by research and analysis to inculcate a love for learning and literature. Though prejudiced by past events, he does not allow this to cloud his judgement.

The book deals with parenting, the agony of middle school, the individuality of each child, the jealousy, resentment and fear of change faced by both children and teachers, each at their level. It deals with violence, resentment, bullying, and defiance in children. It explores new methods to get the student or child on the right path by introducing them to those less fortunate than themselves. It explores a synthesis in learning and new and fun methods of teaching. And it deals with the inherent goodness in children and in man. A family story, which shows that love, forgiveness and understanding in family life, will help to bring stability in a child’s life.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“This is a very deep book that deals with a multitude of woes for the tween age group: starting middle school, a child’s individuality, parenting choices, the ways teachers and educators choose to respond to students, jealousy, resentment, fear of change, bullying, defiance and disrespect. It offers real life situations showing these examples and talks about the good and bad things that can happen in each situation. It shows young readers how one might traverse these situations and the outcomes that can result when right and wrong paths are chosen. Overall, it is a very educational book that parents will feel good about their children reading.”
